Need to renew your SMSTS certificate? This 2-day online refresher course is just what you’re looking for. Delivered live via Zoom by expert trainers, it covers everything you'd get in the classroom – just from the comfort of your own home (or office). It's interactive, engaging, and designed to help you stay up to date with the latest in construction health and safety.

To join, you'll need a laptop or desktop computer with a working webcam, mic, and speakers. (Sorry – tablets and phones won’t work for this course.)

Who Should Take This?

This course is perfect for anyone who has already completed the full 5-day SMSTS or a previous SMSTS Refresher course within the last five years. You'll need to show proof that your certificate is still valid – and remember, you must attend both full days to get re-certified.

Heads-up: If your current certificate expires before you take the refresher, you'll have to redo the full 5-day course. So don't wait too long!

How You'll Be Assessed

At the end of the course, you’ll take a short online exam – nothing to stress over, just a way to check your understanding. Here's how it works:

• 25 questions total
  • 18 multiple-choice
  • 7 short answer or multi-response
• You’ll need at least 26 out of 32 marks to pass (that’s 81%)
• The exam is monitored via Zoom, and no mobile phones or second devices are allowed

What You’ll Need

Before signing up, make sure you have:

• A valid SMSTS or SMSTS Refresher certificate from the last 5 years
• A good understanding of English (written and spoken)
• A laptop or desktop with a webcam, mic, and speakers

Certification

Pass the course and exam, and you’ll get a CITB SMSTS Refresher e-certificate, valid for another 5 years. It usually arrives by email within 2–3 weeks.
